Day One

Day one is over. I spent three hours with friends in a food court after church and it was pretty painful how often food was offered and I felt like an idiot turning it down. My body has been mad at me all day, and this is only the beginning of this dysfunctional relationship between my body and I. Im being reminded of how often we tend to take for granted our culture of filtered water and three meals a day. There was a song I heard a couple of days ago that has been stuck in my head all day. Its called ‘Compromise’ by SHAD, and goes something like this -

“I know it’s so cliche but I’m angry that some can’t eat, meanwhile I’m letting a damn feast of pastas and canned meats rot in my pantry. Like Lord, please can we speak frankly? Like God, why you letting this happen? Amen, He answered, “Son, i’m askin you the same thing, cause youre supposed to be my servants out there working like you’re My hands reaching out to those that’s hurtin. You dont have long on this earth and I hope you wont compromise.”

At the end of the first day of my hunger strike, we have been able to raise $935 out of the $15,500 im having to raise before I can eat again. Its amazing how much the word has been spread and how much prayer has been lifted up, not only for me through this, but for the 30,000 invisible children that have breathed their last breath tonight and the families who have no hopes of preventing this happening again. Lets continue to realize the injustice that were allowing, and do everything we can to be people of restoration. SHARE THE FACTS. PRAY. GIVE. LEARN TO LOVE. REALIZE these children deserve the same life we give our own. We get too focused on the way things ought to be, and forget to realized how blessed we truly are.
